Malali Explosion: A Call for caution Against Reprisals

The Youth Against Disaster Initiative (YADI), a registered non-governmental organization for youth advocates on disaster risk reduction has called on Nigerians to be wary of undesirable elements that could capitalize on the insecurity in the country to attack innocent citizens.

The group made the appeal today after the reported bomb explosion at a catholic church in Malali, Kaduna state where a number of casualties were recorded and infuriated some groups to initiate reprisal attacks.

While condemning the suicide attackers and similar ethinic and religious violences in some parts of the country, YADI calls on security agencies to ensure they provide adequate measures to protect lives and properties of the citizens, especially at a period when many Nigerians would be travelling back to their working destinations after the Sallah public holiday.

While noting that Nigerians from various religious and ethnic backgrounds have lived peaceful with one another, they should continue to be their brothers’ keepers in face of national challenges.

YADI also commended response agencies especially the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the military, the police, Red Cross and volunteer for their timely response to the scene of such disasters in the country.
